Seven people are in critical condition and a total of 16 have received medical treatment after encountering hazardous materials at a Hampton Inn swimming pool in Ohio on Saturday.

Marysville Police Chief Tony Brooks said a 911 call was made after a 2-year-old girl was found in the pool unconscious around 5:30 p.m. More phone calls came in with other people reporting dizziness and a burning sensation in their throats, Brooks added.

Marysville Police was assisted by the Marysville Fire Department and other multiple departments. The hotel located at 16610 Square Drive has been evacuated, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

Brooks said all people were alive when taken to the hospital, but he didn’t have an update on their conditions.

Ohio TV reporter Mike McCarthy tweeted that some of the guests are in stable condition and others were walk-ins at nearby Memorial Hospital.

The police chief said the event is under investigation as to whether the cause was from a chemical in the pool or a carbon monoxide leak.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.

Marysville is located in Union County, about 25 miles northwest of Columbus.
