From the article:
Workers at three Amazon warehouses in the New York City and Washington, DC metro areas walked off the night shift on Wednesday in a coordinated effort to demand $3 an hour raises and the reinstatement of 20 minute rest breaks.
Striking workers say that their wages of roughly $15.75 to $17.25 an hour are not enough to survive with this year’s rapidly inflated prices on the cost of housing, food, and gas. Last year, Amazon announced that it was trimming back rest breaks from 20 to 15 minutes, ending a COVID-era perk intended to give workers extra time to maintain social distancing and safety procedures.
The strikes took place at Amazon delivery stations, Amazon’s smallest type of warehouse, which sometimes only employ a few hundred workers and run much smaller shifts and are often located in or near major cities. At these warehouses, Amazon packages are loaded onto vans for delivery to customers’ houses.

This is extremely sad. They’re struggling and fighting for a wage that’s STILL a starvation level income.
We need to wake up. We’ve got people that are busting their asses trying to eek out a living and we’re out here putting work in to still be poor.
Minimum wage should be mid 20’s per hour now. Settling for less is doing yourself a disservice.

It’s okay, everyone will keep blindly giving Amazon all their business because they need to consume and need that sweet rush of getting their package the same/next day.
And yes I know Amazon makes more of their money through AWS, I don’t care, it doesn’t change that people should be giving them less business because of how they treat their employees.

It will eventually happen. You can feel the tension building with teacher strikes, Starbucks, Amazon, etc. The growing income disparity is becoming more and more highlighted. Even seeing my coworkers in my white color job not retuning to the office full time and saying “what are you going to do? Fire me? Good luck finding a replacement.” Workers are pushing back.
The threat against it used to be outsourcing jobs overseas but with the efforts to insource everything, US workers have more leverage again. These things seem to go in waves.

As an Italian, where we literally forced Amazon to let our union into the company and got raises for everyone, the state of unions in the USA is fucking mind-boggling. Especially how people talk so easily with “we should start a union” like it’s a fucking cookie shop or something.
I know what happened in the USA but holy fucking shit it’s unreal. Did the Chicago fucking workers get trampled for the 8 hours for this? Ironic that the majority is italian too.
Wake the fuck up workers.

They gave them an extra 5 minutes on their break and called it a perk?!!!!!I am actually laughing so hard right now I’m crying which is transitioning nicely into the immense sadness I feel.
