NEW DELHI: India aims to be the content sub-continent of the world, information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur said on Monday, the concluding day of his three-day visit to Expo 2020 in Dubai. Thakur met Issam Kazim, the chief executive of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, to discuss strategies adopted by Dubai to promote it as a preferred tourism destination for the world.
Discussing Dubai’s focused strategies to get 25 million tourists by 2025 and to become the world’s most visited city, Kazim said India has great potential in tourism and that it can utilise the unique aspects of key cities and states and focus on their strengths.
The country’s IT talent, he added, benefits the global industry and can be promoted as India’s strength.
Kazim also pointed out that while Dubai’s Studio City has the latest technologies, equipment and facilities at par with Hollywood to help filmmakers reduce logistics cost of bringing their own equipment, India has great potential in the VFX sector and that UAE and India can collaborate in this area. Thakur also invited Kazim to India to discuss collaboration opportunities in the areas of tourism, media and entertainment.
Earlier in his three-day tour, Thakur highlighted the new opportunities in the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics) sector and said India is keen to partner with the UAE in the AVGC sector for better content creation.
Thakur, who also holds the sports portfolio, said sports is a potential area in the media and entertainment industry and that the government of India has archived content that can be revamped and digitised to generate more revenue.
The Abu Dhabi Film Commission also expressed keenness to work in collaboration with India and shared a draft co-production treaty with Thakur. The government said it is in the process of announcing incentives for co-production.
