Members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayeegal Sangam on Monday urged the Central and State governments to control fuel price.

In a petition to the district administration at the weekly grievances meet, the farmers said the increase in price of petrol and diesel had come at a time when farmers saw a drop in price of their produce.

In the last 10 days, the price of petrol and diesel had increased on a daily basis to touch ₹ 101. 44 a litre diesel and ₹ 111.34 a litre petrol.

The famrers used the fuel in hand sprayers, machines to harvest and transport produce. The fuel price increase had had a cascading impact on the price of machinery they rented, the farmers led by president Su. Palanisamy said and added that the price had led to an increase in the cost of production for farmers.

But they were not getting the right price for their produce, they said and urged the governments to control the fuel price hike.

Wage hike demanded

Women health volunteers working under the Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme in Thondamuthur and S.S. Kulam blocks on Monday appealed to the State Government to regularise their employment and pay their wages without delay.

In their petition through the Coimbatore district administration at the weekly grievance day meet, they said at the time of their employment, they were told that they had to work only on a part-time basis at two hours a day.

But now they worked full time and also played supportive role in health and vaccination camps. The State government would therefore do well to increase their wage to commensurate with their work and regularise their employment as well.

NTK asks enumeration of migrant labourers

Naam Tamilar Katchi on Monday urged the Coimbatore district administration to enumerate migrant workers in the district and take steps to prevent crimes involving such works.

In a petition at the weekly grievance meet, the Kinathukadavu Assembly unit of the party said in a recent incident, a few migrant workers in Modakurichi in Erode district had assaulted police personnel.

Coimbatore had a high concentration of migrant labourers. To prevent occurrence of crime involving the migrant workers the administration would do well to constitute a committee to survey establishments where such workers were employed, collect their details and take steps to prevent crimes involving migrant labourers.
