Bored Ape Yacht Club is hitting the big time! Coinbase has just announced that it will be taking Bored Ape Yacht Clubs NFTs to Hollywood and featuring them in a film trilogy. The three-part film series will celebrate the unique BAYC community and the NFT space as a whole.

What we know so far
The film series, called “The Degen Trilogy,” will debut at NFT NYC between June 20 and 23. The name related to the crypto term “degen,” which refers to people buying NFTs or investing in crypto without prior research.
BAYC members can contribute to the film series by submitting their apes for consideration via the Degen Trilogy website. If you’re not an ape holder, you can still access to Degen Trilogy website for updates, drops, easter eggs and so on. Additionally, viewers will be able to vote for their favourite storyline and the future of the trilogy.
Coinbase Entertainment and culture marketing director William Swann commented on this new venture: “At Coinbase, we are dedicated to creating and supporting content projects that speak directly to our community and sustaining the culture of Web3 innovation.”
He continued: “As we aim to bring the next billion people into the crypto economy, we firmly believe that this interactive film series will act as a catalyst to serve that mission and help audiences understand the collaborative nature of Web3. We’ve been inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club community and [we are] excited to invite them to co-create this film with us.”
Bored Ape Yacht Club in pop culture
Undoubtedly, Bored Ape Yacht Club is one of the most popular NFT collections in the world. In April 2021, each piece cost about $250. Nowadays, the cheapest NFT costs 113 ETH or $344,484.
In addition to being a status symbol, a BAYC NFT serves as a membership pass to the BAYC community. This includes A-listers such as Tom Brady, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Jimmy Fallon and Snoop Dogg, to name but a few.

It is safe to say Bored Ape Yacht Club has transcended the crypto community and is now part of pop culture. Jimmy Fallon and Paris Hilton famously discussed their apes during a Tonight Show interview that went viral. Rolling Stone released a special edition with a Bored Ape on its cover. Additionally, brands such as PrettyLittleThings, Adidas and Prada have partnered with BAYC.
Yuga Labs is doing its best to continue expanding the BAYC universe. In addition to launching ApeCoin and the Otherside metaverse, the company is also working on off-chain initiatives. These include a pop-up burger shop in California, BAYC figurines with Superplastic, and a mobile game with Animoca Games.
Bored Ape Yacht Club isn’t the only collection that is getting the big-screen treatment. In February, Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, announced a storytelling partnership with the NFT project World of Women (WoW). As part of the partnership, Witherspoon’s company will create WoW-centred feature films, as well as scripted and unscripted TV series.
