Global Covid caseload tops 502.8 million
The global coronavirus caseload has topped 502.8 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.19 million and vaccinations to over 11.15 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.In its latest update on Friday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 502,847,462 and 6,193,239 respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 11,154,392,381.

FDA authorizes 1st breath test for COVID-19 infection
The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday issued an emergency use authorization for what it said is the first device that can detect COVID-19 in breath samples.The InspectIR COVID-19 Breathalyzer is about the size of a piece of carry-on luggage, the FDA said, and can be used in doctor’s offices, hospitals and mobile testing sites. The test, which can provide results in less than three minutes, must be carried out under the supervision of a licensed health care provider.
1,430 Covid patients discharged from hospitals on Chinese mainland
A total of 1,430 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said in its Friday report.This brought the mainland’s total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovery to 145,352 as of Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.
