₹1,473.95 crore sanctioned for beneficiaries from Muslim community, says Union Minister

The Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mohammad Jawed, stated that 1.54 crore verified applications were received for pre and post matric scholarships from across the country for the years 2019-20 and 2020-21. 
Responding a question from Villupuram MP D. Ravikumar who had asked about how many girls were among the applicants and had received the scholarship, the Minister said in the Lok Sabha that 81.90 lakh applicants were girls, and that 64.66 lakh girls were sanctioned the scholarships. 
Mr. Ravikumar had also asked about the total expenditure on scholarships for Muslims during the last three years.  In 2020-21, ₹1,473.95 crore was sanctioned for beneficiaries from the Muslim community under the pre-matric, post-matric, and merit-cum-means based scholarships. This had fallen from the expenditure for 2019-20 and 2018-19 where ₹1,747.13 crore and ₹1,575.56 crore was sanctioned respectively.
