The ruling party has planned an outreach programme to ‘expose’ the Congress stand on the hijab issue

HOSPET (VIJAYANAGARA): Even as the BJP government in Karnataka has come under pressure due to contractor Santosh K Patil’s death and the alleged 40% kickback in civil works, the ruling party has planned an outreach programme to ‘expose’ the Congress stand on the hijab issue.
Some party office-bearers who attended the BJP’s two-day executive committee meeting here on Saturday said senior party leaders asked them to hold interactive sessions on the hijab issue and educate people on the recent court verdict.
“Though the programme outline has not been finalised, we were asked to reach out to people and expose the Congress which is refraining from taking a stand and maintaining a silence on the issue,” said the party chief of a North Karnataka district.
He said: “There is a war of perception and the BJP needs to counter the Congress smear campaign.” At the inaugural function, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said: “The opposition party is unable to take a stand on the hijab row and has become directionless.”
When some district party chiefs expressed reservation about the performance of a few sitting legislators and ticket aspirants, senior party functionaries reportedly told them that controversial and non-performing sitting MLAs would be replaced with new faces. “Winnability will be the sole criterion for ticket allocation, and those who don’t perform must be ready to perish,” a national functionary said. The ministers, legislators, party office-bearers and cadres were asked to publicise the Centre’s schemes, BJP’s achievements, and expose the opposition.
The recent assembly victory in four states, a speedy rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, and free ration scheme are among the initiatives he listed. “Our senior party functionaries stressed the need to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots ahead of next year’s assembly polls and counter the Congress smear campaign. We held some sessions to boost the morale of workers and office-bearers,’’ said Arun Singh, BJP national secretary in-charge of Karnataka.
BJP national organising general secretary BL Santosh, BJP national vice-president DK Aruna, and BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel also addressed the gathering. The meeting was inaugurated by performing gau puja. National BJP president JP Nadda will attend the concluding event on Sunday
