Four children have died and another four are critically injured after they fell from a bounce house that had been blown in the air on a tragic last day of school in Australia. Two of the deceased were girls and two were boys.

The grade five and six students had fallen from a height of about 30 feet when wind blew the inflatable into the air at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport, in north-west Tasmania at around 10 a.m. Thursday local time.

“These children were meant to be celebrating their last day of primary school, ” Tasmania Police Commissioner Darren Hine said, “instead we’re all mourning their loss,” Australia’s ABC News reported.

Hine said a police investigation would take “quite some time” and added that, “our hearts are breaking for the families and the loved ones, schoolmates, teachers of these young people who were taken too soon.”

This is a developing story.
