Sources said Sanjay is the only child of Narayana Swamy, a farmer, and Asharani, a homemaker. They live on Marigudi Road in Hanur town. Asharani was not keeping good health for the past one year and breathed her last on Monday morning.
According to Hanur block education officer Swamy TR, the boy studies in Christa Raja Aided High School. Its principal Robert C Dhanaraj told TOI: “We learnt about the tragedy in the morning. Immediately, I spoke to the boy’s father and requested him to send Sanjay to the examination no matter what. Within minutes, Sanjay called me to confirm that he will write the examination.”
As soon as he walked into the examination centre, teachers and other faculty members consoled the boy and built confidence in him to overcome the situation. “When he was writing the examination, we visited his house and offered condolences to the family and paid our respects to the departed soul,” he said.
With the condition of his mother deteriorating by the hour, Sanjay hadn’t eaten since Sunday night.
“After he wrote the examination, we offered him food before sending him home,” the principal added.
