Shanghai reports record asymptomatic Covid cases as lockdowns begin

China’s financial hub of Shanghai reported a record 3,450 asymptomatic Covid-19 cases and 50 symptomatic cases on March 27, the city government said on its official WeChat account on Monday.That compared with 2,631 new asymptomatic cases and 47 new cases with symptoms reported a day earlier.

Fresh Covid-19 cases in India dip for ninth week in a row

Fresh cases of Covid-19 continued to dip in the country for the ninth week running. India reported just over 11,400 cases in the current week (March 21-27), down 28% from the previous week’s tally of 15,820. This was the lowest weekly Covid case count since April 20-26, 2020, when 10,585 fresh infections were recorded.

Pakistan accumulates over $10 billion in new debt during Covid pandemic

Asian Development Bank released a report which states that Pakistan has accumulated over $ 10 billion in new debt during the Covid-19 pandemic. To manage the fiscal imbalance, the government massively stockpiled debt, which led to impacts on financial markets. A high fiscal deficit affects resource allocation among the private and the public sectors. In Pakistan, the borrowing of the government from banks constitutes more than 90 per cent of total loans, the report noted.

Delhi reports 71 new Covid-19 cases

Delhi reported 71 fresh Covid-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours, according to the health bulletin. The total Covid-19 cases in the city moved up to 18,64,549 including 448 active cases. According to the Delhi Health Department bulletin, the city had a positivity rate of 0.31 per cent. It said 86 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours and the total recoveries have gone up 18,37,950. The death toll is 26,151 and the case fatality rate is 1.4 per cent. In the ongoing vaccination drive against Covid-19, 84,132 beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. Of these, 51,580 took their first dose and 27,640 took their second dose. The number of beneficiaries in the 15 to 17 age group who were vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 9,924.

Travel industry welcomes Centre’s decision to reopen international flights

The travel industry stakeholders of the country on Sunday hailed the decision of the Central government to resume commercial international passengers services after a gap of two years from today. As per the press release issued by the Ministry of Tourism, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had suspended operations of international commercial services with effect on March 23, 2020, with a view to preventing the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.
