The State government has directly received 20 applications for launch of private industrial parks. Applications have come in from all the districts except Idukki and Wayanad, said Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, here on Saturday. He said the Kerala State Small Industries Association and groups of private industrialists in different districts had taken a keen interest in getting private estates working, in keeping with the government decision to encourage them.
Mr. Rajeeve was speaking at a press conference here. He said the first of the private industrial estate was likely to come up in Pathanamthitta and expected the foundation for the project was likely to be laid in May this year.
He said private industrial estates were one of the vehicles to fulfil the goal of launching one lakh small new enterprises in the State during the current year. The goal was achievable and realistic, he said, adding that since the Left Front government came to power for the second term, 12,000 new enterprises had been launched.
The industrial estates coming up in the private sector, including those set up by cooperative societies, will get up to ₹3 crore support.
The revised scheme for setting up private industrial estates allows them to be set up in 10 acres in both urban and rural areas. The application for permission to launch the industrial estates will be expedited with the help of committee of officials from the Industries, Finance, Revenue, Local Self Government, Water Resources, Electricity and Environmental Departments, Mr. Rajeeve added.
The incentive being provided to the private estates could be utilised for developing basic infrastructure such as getting electricity connections and water supply facilities. The applications would be processed in 30 days after ascertaining the applicant has the capacity to establish all the facilities within two years of getting the permission.
