Notably, AAP might end up becoming the main opposition party as it predicted to get 5 to 9 seats in the 40-member assembly. Whereas other independents and smaller parties are likely to get somewhere between 6-10 seats in the next assembly elections in 2022, says ABP-Cvoter Survey.

In the last elections, the BJP had secured 11 seats, but this time it is expected to add more seats to its total tally. Congress, which won 17 seats in 2017, is projected to bag just 4 to 8 seats.

Despite AAP and TMC’s entry into Goa poll, the BJP is expected to win the next elections in the coastal state. The saffron party, under the leadership of Pramod Sawant, is projected to win 17-21 seats.

Ex-Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who floated his new party Punjab Lok Congress, will have an alliance with the BJP and it has to be seen how much it will impact on the polls.

The ruling Congress is predicted to win somewhere between 39-45 seats in the 117-member assembly. Akali Dali is projected to bag somewhere between 17 to 23 seats while the BJP is reduced to 0-3 seats, the survey claims.

According to recent survey, Charanjit Singh Channi is preferred by 32.9 per cent of respondents for the post of Punjab Chief Minister followed by Arvind Kejriwal (23.7 per cent). Akali Dal’s Sukhbir Singh Badal (17.5 per cent) and AAP’s Bhagwant Mann (12.8 per cent).

The survey conducted by ABP-Cvoter, the state is projected to witness a hung assembly. In a departure from the political tradition in which the state has usually switched power between Congress and Akali Dal-BJP combine, AAP is likely to be the single largest party by winning 50-56 seats.

Punjab

Punjab Heading for Four-cornered Contest

Punjab is heading for a four-cornered contest as a large number of people in the state is looking for a fresh face. A recent survey conducted by ABP-CVoter indicates that the citizens are moving away from the tried-and-tested parties as the AAP is expected to emerge as the single largest party in the next polls.

Interestingly, both the parties are eating into the BSP’s vote share. Mayawati-led party had secured 22.2 per cent votes in 2017 and it is coming down to 14.1 per cent votes in 2022. It is predicted to win 9-14 seats, the lowest in the last three decades, as per the poll.
Congress is projected to get the seats in single digit.

The poll claims that the BJP alliance might win somewhere between 230-249 seats in the 2022 elections. It means it will lose somewhere around 75-90 seats compared to the previous elections where it won 325 seats.
On the other side, SP, which was reduced to 48 seats in 2017, is predicted to win 137-152 seats. As far as the votes share are concerned, the BJP alliance is predicted to secure 38.6 per cent while the SP is garnering 34.4 per cent votes.

The survey adds that the saffron party under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath will return to power even as the Samajwadi Party under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav is predicted to improve its performance compared to the previous elections

Uttar Pradesh

What Do Poll Surveys Say ?

A recent survey conducted by Times Now and Navbharat projected the BJP to win the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

These include 50 companies of the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), 30 companies each of the Border Security Force (BSF), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and 20 companies each of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border (ITBP).

In view of the forthcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, a total of 150 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel are being provided to the state by the Centre in the first phase.

According to the ministry, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in his meeting with ECI presented the overall global and domestic status of spread of Covid, as well as Omicron, in the country.

A possibility of Model Code of Conduct by Election Commission coming into play from January 8 for poll-bound states

It is learnt that Uttar Pradesh is likely to vote in six to eight phases, while Punjab will go for polling in two to three phases.

Last week, the poll body held a meeting with the Health Ministry to discuss the current Covid situation in the five states.

Mohali civil surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur said Channi’s wife Kamaljit Kaur, his son Navjit Singh and daughter-in-law Simrandheer Kaur have tested positive for coronavirus. They all have mild symptoms and are in home-isolation, she further said.

The Union government has provided the Y+ category VIP security cover to Punjab MLA Fatehjang Singh Bajwa who recently joined the BJP.
