I’ve always loved this movie. Finding out it abandoned most, if not all of the themes from the book it’s based off, was, a journey.

Not just abandoned, but purposely reversed. It took those themes and were like, “what if instead of glorifying fascism military worship culture, we satirized it?” And a masterpiece was born.

Edit: clarified my meaning.

thinking back to this movie, they literally picked the worst method to kill giant bugs. I mean your going to send infantry with small arms? jfc… FIRST nuke the entire planet first.

and then use tanks and air support to clean up the survivors.

I read an interview with Verhoeven from 2017 other day: “Is Starship Troopers, a fascist satire, coming true?”

He goes into the details about the movie from the arian faces of the actors to the turbo fachist ideology inside the movie. I saw the movie when I was a teen. That interview opened my eyes a bit.

level 1

There is not a single doubt in my mind that Verhoeven would agree to that.

level 2

I can only assume he was planning to do it without them asking

He’s Dutch. We’re not prude.

The cast agreed to do the co-ed shower scene only if Verhoeven agreed to direct the scene naked, which he did.[7][9] Verhoeven found it strange “Americans get more upset about nudity than ultra-violence. I am constantly amazed about that. I mean, I haven’t seen any sex scenes in American film that are anything other than completely boring. A bare breast is more difficult to get through the censors than a body riddled with bullets.”

This is the only thing about that movie that Heinlein would actually have approved of.

level 2

Also the bit with the violin.

level 2

Yeah, the movie satirizes the fascist society that the writer seems to be quite in approval of.

Watching this scene in theaters was awesome back in the day

….until my mom said something.

level 2

I really like scenes like this, especially in things like anime, not because i want to look at tits or cocks, but because censoring it just brings more attention to it and makes it seem more sexual than it is

level 2

But do they all remember everyone’s dick size after like 30 years?
