CHP said the multi-vehicle crash appears to have been “caused by people driving too fast with the sun in their eyes.”
The agency warned in a Facebook message posted Tuesday night that changing seasons can bring different conditions and drivers should be prepared.
“Daylight savings time just started, so the sun is in a different place in the sky than it was during your commute a couple of weeks ago,” CHP said. Please make sure you are driving at a safe speed and that both you and your vehicle are prepared for changing conditions no matter what the weather is outside.”

CHPThe incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. on I-280 northbound south of Ocean Avenue when drivers in 11 cars were all involved in a wreck. Photos shared by the CHP on Facebook show wrecked cars, but the agency said, “The crash only caused minor injuries.”
While a sunny day may seem to offer prime driving conditions, in this case the sun created a traffic hazard with a glare that obstructed drivers’ view of the road.
