India has recorded 236 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 16 states and UTs so far out of which 104 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday. Maharashtra has recorded the maximum 65 cases of the Omicron variant followed by Delhi at 64, Telangana 24, Karnataka 19, Rajasthan 21 and Kerala 15. The ministry data updated at 8 am also showed that India recorded 7,495 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of cases to 3,47,65,976, while the active cases increased to 78,291.

In the last 24 hours, the movement of more than 280 trains has been affected due to protest demonstration by farmers in the Firozpur Division of the Northern Railway. While more than 400 trains have been affected in the last four days of protest: CPRO, Northern Railway.
Pakistan logs 359 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours
Pakistan reported 359 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the country’s National Command and Operation Centre said on Thursday. According to the NCOC, at least two people have been died due to the coronavirus infection. “Total Tests in Last 24 Hours: 46,564 Positive Cases: 359 Positivity %: 0.77% Deaths : 2 Patients on Critical Care: 666,” the NCOC said in a tweet.
Japan rules out changes to COVID-19 curbs despite Omicron
Japan’s government is not considering an immediate change to current COVID-19 restrictions, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Thursday, a day after community transmission of the Omicron variant was discovered in the country. The government confirmed on Wednesday that a family of three based in the western city of Osaka were infected by the Omicron variant and the origin of how they had caught the virus could not be traced. The government has started preparations to expand free testing to people who don’t have COVID-19 symptoms in an attempt to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant, news agency Jiji reported on Thursday citing unnamed government sources.
CM Patel convened a high-level meeting and reviewed the current COVID19 situation in the state. He said that about 70,000 tests are done daily. 85% of the eligible population has received two doses of vaccine and 95% has received the first dose in the state: CMO

China reports 71 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases
China on Wednesday reported 71 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the country’s National Health Commission said on Thursday. Of the new local cases, 63 were reported in Shaanxi, four in Guangxi, two in Henan, and one each in Zhejiang and Guangdong, Xinhua quoted the commission as saying. Also reported were 29 new imported cases in nine provincial-level regions, according to the commission. No new suspected cases or new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday, it added.
Malaysia reports 3,519 new COVID-19 infections, 29 more deaths
Malaysia reported 3,519 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight on Wednesday, bringing the national total to 2,728,203, the health ministry said. Some 100 of the new cases were imported, with 3,419 being local transmissions, the data released by the ministry showed. Another 29 deaths had been reported, bringing the death toll to 31,221.

Air quality in Delhi remains in ‘very poor’ category
