I couldn’t agree more. Poverty is a special hell, rife with worries, tears, and hurt. One can be thankful and admire skill one have learnt through such a hardship, but to glamorise it is just perverse and gross.

level 2

perverse and gross.

We need stronger words than these. But the sad fact that remains is that nothing can fix these people’s thinking. We see it with the HCA’s all the time; COVID ain’t real until they are about to die and it’s too late. And even then, imminent death still doesn’t change their thinking. They will actually die on their hill before they allow empathy to kick in. And that? That is so incredibly sad.

I’m building something for kind and empathetic people. I invite you to check it out at r/BestQualityOfLife.

Poverty is the most expensive thing in the world.

On the same vain, can we PLEASE stop romanticizing the myth of the struggling artist? Its awful not being able to make a living out of your craft just because “is not marketeable”.

level 2

It’s always the rich and privileged douchebags that romanticize being poor. Just look at that song “Started From The Bottom”, literally sung by a rich and privileged douchebag who never even came close to being at the “bottom”.

level 2

If you are in poverty due to sacrifices being made for a better future then you have to tell yourself this stuff to keep trucking. Remind yourself that there is a reason. I don’t see him saying “being poor is cool”

level 2

Yeah but hip hop wouldn’t be as cool.

Tennessee Erni Ford said it best.

Only someone who has never been poor a day in their life would glamorize poverty. Try living as a family of 6 in a 2 bedroom apartment. It fucking sucks.

The way dogma is used to justify inequality really makes it feel like we’re in a more complicated version of feudalism. People have completely divorced themselves from thinking about our systems as just means of allocating resources and imbued them with moral imperatives and metaphysical judges of virtue, just so they can pretend this stupid economy makes sense.

level 2

Look, we’re really worried that if you give poor people money they’ll just spend it on drugs. -some guy that lives in a mansion

level 2

In feudalism people paid taxes to the nobility because the nobility controlled fortifications and hired soldiers and provided protection. The system was kept in place by that need for protection. In modern society, the only thing keeping the system in place is the people’s willingness to go along with it.

level 2

See the takeover of religion by capitalists. Make it as close to scripture as possible that god rewards the rich with his grace and hates poors

level 2

I’m not sure it’s that much more complicated tbh. Wealth continues to accumulate in a thinner and thinner layer at the top, the middle class gets destroyed so there is no route out of poverty. As the saying goes, “You will own nothing and you will be happy.”

level 2

There’s been a decades long political project by the ruling elite in America (of both parties) to convince people that success is directly proportional to hard work and intelligence. If someone’s rich it’s because they worked harder and were smarter and if they’re poor they’re dumb or lazy. People have been conditioned to think this way subconsciously and it’s destroying the Western world.

can you say this again in english?

level 2

Yea like… bro why are you on poverty’s side?
